Our Story
The name of our school is Te Kura o Pātiki - Rosebank School.
The Māori part of our name refers to this isthmus area on which our school sits. It has a deep history and significance. It was once an area of abundance with travel paths and rich food resources such as Pātiki (Flounder).
Te Tohu - Our Logo
We acknowledge the logo of the past that prompts many fond memories for students past and pays tribute to some of the history of the Avondale/Pātiki area.
Our new logo is an opportunity to acknowledge our whakapapa and who we are now at Te Kura o Pātiki-Rosebank.
Kuaka
Our logo represents our students, the Kuaka. Just as the Kuaka soars over Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa and returns, our students have the skills and attributes to succeed and thrive anywhere in the world.
Pātiki
The land of Pātiki is represented by the whenua in green. Our students have an identity that connects them to this land. The Niho Taniwha and Poutama patterns represent their strength, courage, resilience and constant pursuit of knowledge and understanding.
Awa & Moana
The blue is the river Whau that flows out to the Waitematā and connects to Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa, it connects us to our Pacific Heritage and the tuakana teina relationship Pasifika and Māori share. The Vaai Mamao and Kalavalu patterns convey attributes of strength and long term vision to achieve a goal.
Pātiki Shape
The diamond shape created behind the bird is representation of the Pātiki, representing a thriving land and thriving people.

Vision & Whakataukī
Our school whakataukī is a long standing part of who we are here at Te Kura o Pātiki.
Haere Whakamua
‘Haere whakamua’ is derived from the longer whakataukī ‘Haere whakamua, hoki whakamuri’ means moving forward while reflecting back.
This whakataukī is a perfect proverb to teach us to overcome hurdles and be resilient, keep trying, and never give up. It also reminds us to reflect on where we have come from, learn from the lessons of the past, and move forward with new understanding. It also connects so well to the Kuaka in our tohu and the attributes this bird displays in its journey across the Pacific.
Our Values - Ngā Painga
Our overarching school value is Manaakitanga.
Manaakitanga encompasses generosity of spirit, resource, time, and energy. It is manifested through support, kindness and care for others and the environment.
At Te Kura o Pātiki, we explain it this way:

Manaaki Mai
Respect for self
At all times, do those things that honour ourselves and our whānau and the values they have.

Manaaki Atu
Respect for others
We treat others in the way we would like to be treated.

Manaaki i te Taio
Respect for the environment
The environment cares for us, and we care for it.
