Our school is organised in the following way.
- Our Year 1 children work in a separate team (Whau) that enables them to be introduced successfully into school life in an especially nurturing environment – with low class sizes and a specific part of the school.
- The Year 2 – 6 children work in cross age, whanau based teams.
- We have two Maori bilingual classes (Te Whanau) for year 1-3 and year 4-6 children.
- There are three Samoan bilingual classes (Tupulaga) for year 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6 children.
- The three mainstream teams are Manawa, Kotahitanga and Te Rau Aroha.
Teachers work in year level groups for planning – so the children have the benefit of being part of a family-like team as well as being able to work with children of the same age.
We have very supportive parents. Our PTA (Parent Teacher Association) has worked to help us obtain additional resources. Our Te Roopu Tautoko o Te Whanau (Te Whanau Support Group) meets regularly and works to promote bilingual education within our Maori unit. Other parents help us by 'driving' the Walking School Bus, helping on school trips, attending our Home/School Partnership meetings, training our children for special cultural events and generally caring for the children.
